Birds are fascinating creatures. People keep them as pets, devote time to observing them in the wild, and they continually serve as a source of inspiration. The late creator Jeanne Ruland obviously was considering these things when she started working on the “Oracle of the Birds.”
Ruland’s “Oracle of the Birds” is a love letter to all things avian accompanied by beautiful illustrations from Petra Kuhne. You’ll find crows, robins, and sparrows mixed in with penguins, cuckoos, and peacocks, with even birds of myth and legend such as the phoenix, thunderbird, and Garuda. The accompanying guidebook is a little over 100 pages and provides deeper insights to each card along with affirmations. However, I enjoy the fact that each card provides enough information that you could easily use the deck without cracking the spine on the book. I also enjoy that Ruland is a fan of the single card draw, my favorite way to use any tarot or oracle deck. She offers guidance to turn it into more of a ritual, but there’s nothing wrong with a shuffle and draw.
“Oracle of the Birds” from Jeanne Ruland is a lovely deck for anyone who loves nature and wants a simple, yet introspective, oracle deck experience.
