Season of the Witch

According to Ellen Vora, MD, a witch is “Any woman who has reclaimed the intuitive, mystical, and embodied ways of knowing that our culture tries to shame and suppress,” and with her book, “Season of the Witch: A Psychiatrist’s Case for Magic,” she aims to help the reader achieve this goal.

To facilitate this, Vora has developed five practices, first through her work as a psychiatrist, and then more so as she learned other healing modalities. The five practices that form to basis of “Season of the Witch” are embodiment, presence, valuing Yin, opening to mystery, and serving the collective.

At its core, “Season of the Witch” is a self-help book, albeit with a touch more science and a bit more feminism than some. The author is a board-certified psychiatrist with a holistic practice that integrates her work as an acupuncturist and yoga instructor. Throughout the book you’ll find personal stories from the author, as well as examples of her work at her practice. You’ll find information about your gut-biome, as well as ways to confront and process grief.

For Ellen Vora, MD a combination of fact and mystery work best for her and her patients. If you’re looking for self-help guidance along those lines, “Season of the Witch” may be the perfect book for you.
