If you’re a regular reader of The Magical Buffet there are two things you know. One, I love encyclopedia/reference style books. Two, I love Deborah Blake. Thus, in the biggest non-surprise of 2026, I was super excited to learn Deborah Blake had a new book, “Everyday Witch’s Book of Deities: Ancient Gods for Modern Pagans.”

Obviously, there is no shortage of books that are a collection of a bunch of deities, so let’s talk about what’s in here that may be different and of note for potential readers. In this text you’ll find deities from Greek, Egyptian, Roman, Norse, and Celtic pantheons. Blake does a wonderful job giving enough information about each deity that you don’t necessarily need any other reference but writes about them in such a manner that you’ll find that you want to learn more. “Everyday Witch’s Book of Deities” presents ways to decide what deities, if any, you want to incorporate into your spiritual or magical practice and also helps guide you in figuring out what kind of relationship you wish to have with them, and what ways of honoring them feels right for you.
True to everything in Deborah Blake’s “Everyday Witch’s” series, you will everything you need and a great starting point in “Everyday Witch’s Book of Deities.” It’s hard for books to be all things for all people, but Blake does her damnedest to do that for witchy readers.
