Magic Spells Oracle

Oracle decks are intriguing because they have no rules. For some that may make them seem “lesser” than a traditional tarot deck, but a well thought out oracle deck can certainly hold its own against tarot. It’s obvious why I wanted to look at Judika Illes “Magic Spells Oracle.” Illes is a legend in the witchcraft community and is known for writing the big book of spells, “The Encyclopedia of 5000 Spells.” What would she create?

The “Magic Spells Oracle” is composed of 36 cards. According to the included guidebook, the deck is “intended to help you grasp and wield the profound, transformative, and healing powers of magic, these cards will enable you to discover and cultivate the magic powers that already exist with you.” The oracle deck is divided into four suits: Earth, Fire, Air, and Water, with the addition of “Balancing” cards that act like wild cards. The artwork for the deck is simple but striking.

The “Magic Spells Oracle” comes with a 128-page, full color, guidebook. And it wouldn’t be written by Illes if it wasn’t PACKED with information. Sure, you get interpretations for all the cards, many examples of spreads and other ways to use the deck, and of course, the basics of preparing your deck for use. However, she also discusses the nature of magic, the creation of spells, and oracles in general.

I’m pleased to say that Judika Illes created a fascinating and versatile deck with the “Magic Spells Oracle.” If you want an attractive deck that can do it all, this is the one for you.
