Acts of Magical Resistance

If you were reading The Magical Buffet in February of this year, you learned that I’m quite the fan of occult elder statesman Phil Hine. That why when I learned he had a new book out called “Acts of Magical Resistance,” I didn’t even bother looking to see what it was about it and just ordered a copy.

So, what is “Acts of Magical Resistance?” It’s a short work of Hine’s recollections of the occult activism history of England, including organizations, and many of their actions. Being in America, much of what this book discusses is new to me. The book is compact, at 50 pages, and it features some great images of flyers, comics, and newsletters from the time.

“Acts of Magical Resistance” by Phil Hine is an important addition to the much need modern occult history category. I only wish there was more to it. I’d love to see a second edition that takes the author’s personal experiences and memories and builds it out with more. Perhaps interviews with others about their activism? Maybe more academic research? It could just be that because it’s Hine I just want more of whatever he wants to write.
