The Sorcerer’s Scholar

Remember how in my previous review I mentioned that there were at least two high-end luxury items that magic enthusiasts would surely be interested in? Say hello to numero dos, “The Sorcerer’s Scholar: The High Magic and Spells of the Middle Ages” by Claude Lecouteux. Let me just rip the bandage off here and now, the suggested retail is $95. Now, allow me to tell you why it is worth every penny and possibly more.

First, this is not one, but three books that were written by Claude Lecouteux. If you’re new here, “Hello, my name is Rebecca and I am a Lecouteux fangirl.” “The Sorcerer’s Scholar” is a collection of three previously released Lecouteux works; “Dictionary of Ancient Magic Words and Spells”, “Traditional Magic Spells for Protection and Healing”, and “The High Magic of Talismans and Amulets.” Each one of these books is packed with Lecouteux’s trademark brand of academic scholarship regarding the Middle Ages. Pulling from religious texts, folklore works, and other primary sources, you can count on Lecouteux to show you how different threads intersect and evolve. These three books are more like pure reference books compared to some of the author’s other works, but for those interested in magic, they will be a timeless reference that can be referred to repeatedly.

Next up is the smoking hot sex appeal of this collection. Of course, all three books are hardcover with included ribbon bookmark. They come together in matching dust jackets inside a sturdy cardboard slipcover. And, if you dare to remove the dust jacket from one of these books, you will find gorgeous red fabric with gold embossing.

“The Sorcerer’s Scholar” is an extravagant presentation of three of Claude Lecouteux’s most practical reference books. According to the Inner Traditions website you’re getting a total of 1056 pages and 344 black and white illustrations. Anyone interested in magic would do well by having this set on their shelf.
