Anyone who has been reading The Magical Buffet for any significant amount of time knows that when it comes to crystals, there is no author I look to more than Nicholas Pearson. This is why I was surprised to see that his latest book dealing with crystals was co-authored by Devin Hunter. I mean, what’s with that? When it comes to crystals, Pearson doesn’t need a wingman, a side kick, or a plus one. And don’t get it twisted, I love me some Devin Hunter, but isn’t he a little too busy running his impressive witchcraft empire to dive into the exclusively (to my mind) crystal waters of Pearson? I had feelings and questions and I demanded answers!
And these two authors knew it, and that’s why the introduction to their book “Crystal Divination: The Multifaceted Art of Reading Stones” lays it all out for me. Now I’m going to share it with you, because you’re curious, right? It turns out that both Pearson and Hunter attended The International Divination Event in Dallas, Texas in 2023. After meeting and comparing notes on their talks about crystal use in divination they decided they should write a book together. What followed were several years of teaching individual classes on crystals and crystal divination and then combined workshops on the subject matter. What all that work resulted in was their book “Crystal Divination: The Multifaceted Art of Reading Stones.”
“Crystal Divination” starts out with “Building the Foundation.” Here you’ll learn some crystal and divination basics. It also outlines an intensive 90-day challenge which helps you establish a routine and familiarize yourself with your crystals and your practice. From here you’ll find discussions about scrying and crystallomancy, pendulums and dowsing, drawing lots, casting stones and there are several spreads for doing crystal readings. Aside from the 90-day challenge there are many other exercises and journal prompts. There is also an appendix of divinatory meanings for 200 different crystals! Also, let me not forget to mention that the whole book is in a trade paperback format, with glossy pages, full color throughout, and LOADED with photos of crystals.
As you can tell from my introduction, I had mixed feelings about Nicholas Pearson partnering up with another author to write about crystals. I don’t know the exact details of the labor between Devin Hunter and Pearson for the creation of “Crystal Divination,” but whatever they did worked. I can easily say that “Crystal Divination” is one of my favorite books about crystals. Definitely a new classic for both lovers of crystal and/or divination.
