Still, even the attempt to ban books should be resisted. Far too often the “think of the children!” wail has been used to restrict or censor stories/characters/visuals that is really only objectionable to a very small, vocal minority. The key is that PARENTS should be paying attention to what their children are reading, watching or being exposed to.

Often librarians and teachers find themselves in the middle of some pretty intense community debates and protests. It can be pretty scary and intense for them unless they know there is support for them within the community. Librarians and teachers support this intellectual freedom and the right to read because it is important to everyone’s intellectual growth, community understanding, and it’s the right thing to do. It is also very American to entertain two completely contradictory ideas in the same room.

I’m so psyched to see this posting. The banned books week is to highlight that every idea is vulnerable: yours, mine, theirs. Every idea deserves to be heard, read, understood — and then accepted or rejected. The first action in that process is to read it!

Thanks Rebecca!

Look at the anti-religious work called Keeley Thomson: Demon Girl for a good example.

That’s by K.L. Byron, whoever that is.

The whole thing is just a hit piece to make Christians look bad! That’s hate speech and promotes violence. It wouldn’t be allowed if it took off after Islam would it? No.

Just because the hidden hate is against Christians doesn’t mean we should just let it happen.
