Rebecca, thanks for posting this review. Believe it or not, this is my type of book. Having a background in non-profit organization and development, I may find this book useful. Especially since it’s my goal to eventually “hive off” and begin a coven of my own (whenever I stop making babies, that is). Thank you for being nosy and following your instincts.

I “manage” a large coven which is part of a tradition and we’re still smaller than most churches. One time when asked if she was interested in our group, someone said, “I don’t like organized religion.” To which I replied, “We’re not that organized!”

Even so, I think all spiritual and religious groups have to wrestle with some of the issues covered in this book. Organization, attendance and money. I’ve seen so many covens and groups split over money and power issues. It’s one of the lessons of our culture and society–which makes its appearance in our spiritual groups even if we would rather not.

Thanks for this review. I’d like to read it but not buy it. I checked–so far only 19 libraries own it. I’m going to keep an eye out and maybe I can get it on interlibrary loan.
