I live in a small town and find it difficult to have rational discussions & opinions with most residents when dealing with topics only partially as “controversial” as these. While the answers presented in the article were interesting to me & prompted much thought & introspection, most in my community would consider them an attack on their views & become angry. I do not mean this in a derogatory way, but fear & ignorance are something, aren’t they?

I like to think out of the box, as it were. I’m not satisfied with the status quo. The same old same old is for just that! (Would it have been more appropriate to have said just those?) I like to know how things work, so I ask a lot of questions & do a lot of research – boring to most, but absolutely thrilling to me.

Recently, a local cable access channel had the guts to run a debate between a Church of God Evangelist & a Humanist. It was the most entertaining programming I’ve seen on that station — everything else is simply drivel & not worth watching. Both men were eloquent in the presentation of their ideas & respectful of each other. Neither converted the other to the opposing belief system, but that wasn’t the point. The object was to talk about our differences and similarities without waging war against each other, and to suggest introspection or just maybe the opening of your mind.

I feel as if I’m quoting John Lennon when I say “Promote Thought!”

I apologize for my lack of copy editing – I couldn’t get my underline to work (not to mention the other nonworking functions). ~Moonbeam
